Today (May 8, 2018), in Continental hotel in Skopje, the Agency for Real Estate Cadastre of the Republic of Macedonia held a presentation and a workshop in relation with the establishment of Address Register in the Republic of Macedonia. Besides the Mayor of the City of Skopje, who was also in the capacity of President of the Association of Local Self-government Units (ZELS), the meeting was also attended by many mayors of the cities in the Republic of Macedonia or their representatives, as well as a large number of surveyors.
In its strategic plan for 2017-2019, approved by the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, the Agency for Real Estate Cadastre has specified the establishing of the Address Register of the Republic of Macedonia as their priority project.
The non-existence of unique centralized Address Register, with accurate and updated data hinders the operation of the institutions, the cooperation and the exchange of data. The Address Register will contain unique spatial and descriptive data on the streets and house numbers and will be used for different statistical purposes. For example, when conducting census, the municipalities will use thereof for planning, and the centralized system of the Address Register will enable creation of different navigation applications.
The municipalities will play a key role in the course of the establishment of Address Register in the Republic of Macedonia, mainly when comparing the field data with the data from their records.
Tomaž Petek from the Surveying and Mapping Authority of the Republic of Slovenia also had a presentation on today’s workshop and shared the experience from establishing and maintaining the Address Register in the Republic of Slovenia.
The purpose of this workshop was to hear the international experiences and also introduce the municipalities and the City of Skopje with the planned activities and the activities taken so far, as well as with the role that they have to play in the course of establishing such Register.
